Delayed adap ‘The Maze Runner’ lands a trailer

Pushed back from an original release of September last year, this adaptation of James Dashner’s best-selling book has finally landed itself a trailer. It looks pretty enough, sure, but telling the story of a young man waking in a monolithic labyrinth (with no David Bowie in sight) and zero memory of how he got there, who must solve the mystery of the maze to escape – isn’t this just a rehash of the excellent sci-fi headspinner Cube, repackaged for a Hunger Games crowd? The young cast – including Will Poulter, who was hilarious in last year’s hit We’re The Millers – look capable, the effects work pretty solid, and the great Patricia Clarkson adds a shading of dramatic cred, but is this enough to made it stand (or run) as a franchise starter? Take a look and see what you think:
