Harold Ramis RIP

In what I’m sure is a shock to everybody, I’m deeply sad to hear the news that Harold Ramis has passed away. Like most people of my generation I became most familiar with him through his role as Super Scientist and Ghostbuster Egon Spengler, but I spent almost as much time as a young man watching him and Bill Murray tearing it up in army comedy Stripes. A touchstone of a very particular type of late 70’s and early 80’s comedy, his body of work also including National Lampoon’s Vacation, Animal House and Caddyshack, he was a huge talent in front of and behind the camera – most famously directing Murray in the peerless Groundhog Day.

Leaving us due to ‘complications of autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis’, Harold Ramis will be sincerely missed.
